VITA Volunteer
Tax Return Preparer
Number Needed:
- 2-8 per shift, depending on demand.
Locations, time commitment:
- Choose from the following locations and shifts:
- Ann Arbor Public Library – Downtown Branch (Wednesdays 5-8 pm and some Saturdays 10-2 or 1-4pm)
- Cooley Law School Ann Arbor (Friday January 26th)
- Avalon Housing Carrot Way (2 miles from campus, one Saturday)
- Manchester Public Library (2 Saturdays, 15 miles from campus)
- Minimum commitment of 3 Saturdays and/or Wednesdays between the last week of January 2012 through April 15, 2013
Duties:
- Review intake sheet with client
- Prepare client tax return; obtain necessary signatures and quality review
- Review client letter and tax documents with client
Qualifications:
- Attend and pass all required trainings, including applicable tax law sessions and a TaxWise computer lab workshop (online or in person)
- Pass IRS Ethics & Basic certification tests; additional certification at the Intermediate level is strongly encouraged
- Ability to accurately follow written instructions
- Competency with the use of computers and printers .
- Some experience in preparing individual income tax returns or Taxation course is useful but not required
Supervisor: Site Coordinator. All returns must be independently reviewed, so you are not working alone!

Greeter – Volunteer Position Description
Number Needed: 1-2 per shift, depending on appointment volume
Duties:
- Greet clients and make them comfortable
- Managing client sign in process
- Provide Intake/Interview sheet and assist with completion
- Check that clients have required documents to have returns prepared
- Other duties may include tasks such as assisting with client flow
